Coastal Mountain Youth Academy (CMYA) is an educational and therapeutic program for “at promise” youth, located in Southern California. CMYA’s program consists of a sober day school that serves male and female adolescents between the ages of 15-18. These adolescents struggle with issues such as addiction, truancy, abuse, juvenile detention and probation.

Warning signs your Child Is in Trouble with Drugs and/or Alcohol

  The teenager years bring about many changes. Some of these changes are normal and others can be a sign of a serious problem.  As a parent how can you tell the difference. 

 

   Below you will see some warning signs for drug and alcohol use and abuse

 

1) Changes in school- truancy’s, drop in grades

2) Changes in friends or conversation with friends (secretive, or coded language)

3) Changes in clothing or music-new interest in clothes or music that emphasize drug use.

4) Asking to borrow more money than usual

5) Loss of interest in activities that your child used to enjoy

6) Drug paraphernalia- pipes, rolling papers, empty bottles, eye dops, mouth wash or mints etc…

7) Missing prescription drugs

8) Personality or changes in mood- was outgoing now withdrawn, edginess, etc…

9) Withdrawn from family and sober friends,

10) More argumentative, sudden outbursts of rage or anger

11) Change in weight, sleep habits and mood

 

 

If your child has any of these signs the maybe struggling with substance abuse. It is time to get your child in for an assessment.  Always trust your instincts doing  nothing and hoping it goes away puts your child and your family in serious danger.
